Did you know the original beautyblender was first tested on the set of Girlfriends??? Silva was working on the show at the time and used it to apply and touch-up the makeup for the four female lead stars. Silva saw the need for a more durable sponge that you wouldn’t have to throw away after one or two uses. She wanted a tool that gave her clients an airbrushed look without having to actually use an airbrush machine. “A sponge that was edgeless so that it would fit the contours of the face, like the nose and eyes, and have a soft-suede like texture.”

The beautyblender features an open cell structure that fills with small amounts of water when wet. This allows the sponge to be “full” so that the makeup product sits on top of the sponge rather than being absorbed, allowing you to use less product every time.
