It’s no secret that people with higher levels of melanin have been underrepresented in the beauty and cosmetic industry. As a Hispanic woman, founder Rafaela Gonzalez was raised thinking that light skin and hair you could comb your fingers through was the ideal form of beauty and this ideology was confronted when she felt fear of growing out her natural hair. She went through a journey of self-acceptance and self-love which also lead her to creating products for herself and purchasing many different products to see what worked for her.
As a result of this journey, she developed a love for self-care and beauty. After that she noticed that there were very few brands out there that were created with the colored woman in mind! In addition, she became aware of the harmful ingredients in many brands. She is one who believes that nature holds all the components to create effective products to aid in achieving a healthy complexion. With this understanding she was inspired to create something where women of color weren’t the last thought; rather they were the inspiration and catalyst that brought it to life. Gloryscent Beauty is a pro-melanin skincare brand created to facilitate the journey to healthy radiant skin by protecting the skin from environmental aggressors such as air pollution and sun damage.
